Wedding Diary: The Australian Native Flower Bouquets

Hello my friends. I am here to write a throwback post to my 2018 wedding. I am feeling reminiscent because I just spent the last four weeks going through my old posts to fix or edit them before re-launching my blog. These also included some old wedding posts and since my 8 year wedding anniversary had just passed, I felt it was fitting. Today I will focus on my wedding bouquet, which I made myself. I had been practising in the weeks leading up to the wedding (you can see my practice bouquet here).

The above photo was my final product. I went to the Flemington Flower Markets at 5am, two days (a Thursday) before my wedding to buy the flowers and assembled them that day. Going with what was available that day, I also chose to use Australian Native flowers because I knew they would survive well until Saturday.

I used green Florists Tape and Garden Twine String to wrap the stems tightly around the middle, leaving the ends exposed. Then I wrapped the twine around the florists tape to cover it up, trimmed the ends to be straight. Then I finished off with a thick fabric ribbon that matched my dress.

I then did mini versions for the mens' corsage, choosing small flowers with buds, a tiny orange rose and some thin leafage. I tied it up with florist tape and finished off with twine. Then a safety pin was used to pin them on the suits.

Above is Flower Crown I wore to my night dress at the Reception. Very beautiful and pretty and I keep it in a wooden box on my book shelf.

Floral Wrist Corsage by: Curious Floral 

Above is the wrist corsage I wore with my wedding dress all day. After wearing a Fitbit watch for many years, I had a terrible watch tan, lol, and I didn't want to wear my watch to the wedding. So this was my solution. Pretty right? The red threads were from my Cambodian and Vietnamese traditional wedding from the day before. I had a two day wedding with three whole ceremonies. Part of the rituals is to have all your friends and family tie red threads around your wrists for good luck, and you keep it on for as long as you can.

Here is a final shot from just after the ceremony. I am pleased to say I still have my flower bouquet to this day. We hung it upside down on a curtain rod for many years and it survived. When we moved houses, we have it sit in a vase next to my rice cooker in the kitchen. I should probably take a photo. The flowers have now dried out and have browned, but the petals and leafage are still intact.
